1 Hear, O Lord, my words; listen to my cry.
2 Hear my cry for help, my King and my God, for it is to you that I pray.
3 In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I present my prayer and I wait with hope.
4 You are not a God who takes pleasure in injustice; evil cannot dwell with you.
5 The arrogant are not accepted in your presence; you hate all who do evil.
6 He destroys those who speak lies; the Lord detests the murderer and the deceiver.
7 Because of your great mercy, I will enter your house; I will bow down before you in awe holy temple.
8 O Lord, guide me in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me.
9 For there is no truth in their mouths; their hearts are wicked; their throats are open graves; with their tongues they deceive craftily.
10 Declare them guilty, O God! Let them fall by their own schemes. Because of their many transgressions, drive them out, for they have rebelled against you.
11 But may all who take refuge in you rejoice; may they sing for joy forever! Spread your protection over them, so that those who love you may exult with joy.
12 For you, Lord, bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.
Comment:
O Psalm 5 is a morning prayer who cries out for protection against the wicked and the unjust. The psalmist seeks God’s justice and His guidance amid the challenges he faces. He acknowledges God’s holiness and His aversion to evil, asking to be guided in righteousness. This Psalm reminds us of the importance of seeking God in all of life’s circumstances, trusting in His righteousness to defeat the wicked and protect the righteous. It also encourages us to find joy and refuge in God’s presence, trusting in His protection as a shield around us. Like the psalmist, we can find strength and security by taking refuge in God and trusting in His righteousness to guide us.
