What Is the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is the agent of unity among believers, for He unites them into one body, which is the church. He enables believers to love one another, to forgive, to serve, and to build one another up, promoting peace and harmony in the Body of Christ.

The Holy Spirit is the One who sanctifies believers—that is, sets them apart from sin and dedicates them to God. He enables them to live a life of purity, righteousness, and holiness, in accordance with the standards established by God in His Word. His work of sanctification is ongoing and progressive in the believer’s life.
The Holy Spirit and the Hope of Glory
The Holy Spirit is the guarantee of believers’ eternal inheritance, their ultimate redemption, and their glorification. He comforts them, strengthens them, and prepares them for eternal life with God. His presence in the believer’s life is a living hope of the glory to come.
