Psalm 7

Psalm 7

1 Lord my God, I take refuge in you; save me and deliver me from all who persecute me,

2 lest like lions they tear me apart and tear me to pieces, and no one deliver me.

3 Lord my God, if I have done this, if there is injustice in my hands,

4 if I've hurt a friend or spared my opponent without reason,

5 Let the enemy pursue me and overtake me; let him trample me underfoot and lay me in the dust.

6 Arise, O Lord, in your anger; rise up against the fury of my adversaries. Awake, my God! Command justice!

7 Let the nations gather around you. The Lord ascends the throne above them,

8 the Lord who judges the peoples. Judge me, Lord, according to my righteousness, according to my integrity.

Jesus, the Friend of All

9 Make the wickedness of the wicked cease, but establish the righteous, O righteous God who searches hearts and minds.

10 My shield is God, who saves the upright in heart.

11 God is a just judge, a God who manifests his wrath every day.

12 If a man does not repent, God will sharpen his sword, draw his bow and aim,

13 he prepares his deadly weapons and makes flaming arrows out of his arrows.

14 Whoever conceives wickedness brings pain and harm; his mind generates falsehood.

15 He digs a deep hole and falls into the very trap he has prepared.

16 His wickedness turns against himself; his violence descends on his own head.

17 I give thanks to the Lord for his righteousness; to the name of the Lord Most High I sing praise.

Comment:

O Psalm 7 is a prayer of trust in God as the Righteous Judge. The psalmist cries out to God for deliverance and justice in the face of his enemies. He seeks divine intervention against those who persecute him unjustly, trusting in the uprightness and integrity of his heart. This Psalm reminds us of the importance of trusting in God as our refuge and defense in times of adversity. It also emphasizes God's righteous nature as a Judge who searches hearts and minds, bringing judgment on the wicked and establishing the righteous. Like the psalmist, we can find security and consolation in God's justice, knowing that He is our shield and protector against all evils.
