Millennialism has its roots in ancient Jewish and Christian traditions, which believed in a messianic kingdom of peace and justice. This vision was later incorporated by various currents of the Christianity throughout history.
Interpretations of Millennialism
There are different interpretations of Millennialism, the main ones being Premillennialism, Postmillennialism and Amillennialism. Each of these currents presents different visions of Christ's reign on Earth.
Premillennialism
Premillennialism defends the idea that Christ will return before the thousand-year period of peace, establishing an earthly kingdom. It believes in a rapture of the church and the coming of Christ to reign on earth.
Post-millennialism
O Pós-milenarismo, por sua vez, acredita que o período de mil anos de paz será estabelecido pela ação da igreja e dos faithful, antes da volta de Cristo. Nessa visão, a humanidade alcançará um estado de perfeição antes do retorno do Messias.
Amillennialism
Amillennialism, finally, rejects the idea of a literal thousand-year reign of Christ on earth, interpreting this period symbolically. For this current, Millennialism represents the spiritual victory of the church over evil, without a specific earthly era.
